Kidlington Pedestrianisation Scheme

In 2009 Kidlington Parish Council and the Kidlington Village Centre Management Board approached Cherwell District Council for support into looking at the feasibility of pedestrianising the High Street (Watts Way to Oxford Road). Over the last few years the situation of constant traffic movements and indiscriminate parking has steadily been getting worse, making it an unpleasant shopping experience, deterring residents and visitors alike. The Council and Board wanted to know what options were available to either; reduce through traffic, restrict vehicle movement within the designated area; or prevent unauthorised parking via an improved Traffic Regulation Order (TRO). The current Order is very difficult for the police to enforce.

An option of what could be done to improve the situation went out to public consultation in September 2010 for 6 weeks. The outcome of these preliminary investigations by Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council is available to view from Supporting documents section below.

Following this consultation Kidlington Parish Council gave the go ahead to a formal public consultation of a draft TRO. This TRO is now on deposit from Friday 24 June 2011 to Thursday 21 July 2011.

A copy of the deposited documents can be viewed at Bodicote House, Banbury, Exeter Hall, Kidlington, Kidlington Library and on the Supporting documents section of this page. These documents are:

  • Notice of proposals
  • Draft TRO
  • Map showing the location and effect of the proposed TRO
  • Statement of reasons
  • 4 revoked or varied Orders

An explanatory information leaflet and exhibition boards can also be found at the right hand side of this page.

For an informal chat in regards to the Order please contact Lisa Chaney using the contact below. Any objections to the Order need to be made in writing to David Marriott, Head of Regeneration and Estates, Cherwell District Council, Bodicote House, Bodicote, Banbury, Oxfordshire OX15 4AA before 21 July 2011.
